The Mayor of Ma'an, Dr. Yassin Salah, received on Tuesday morning, Her Excellency Mrs. Bridget Brind, the UK Ambassador to Jordan, and the accompanying delegation.
After that, the British Royal Anthem and the Jordanian Royal Anthem were played. In the welcome speech given by the Mayor of Ma'an, Dr. Yassin Faris Salah, he expressed his overwhelming happiness in this visit to the great guest of Ma'an, pointing to the depth of the historical relationship between the United Kingdom and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, presenting a glimpse of the history of Jordan in general, the history of the city of Ma'an and the establishment of The Greater Ma’an Municipality, which was established in 1892 AD, and the development that the municipality has accompanied over the decades.
The Mayor of Ma'an referred to the UK's role in supporting the tourism, environment, education and municipal sectors in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The most important challenges facing the infrastructure in the city of Ma'an were discussed, the most important of which is the problem of sewage and the network's deterioration, which is more than 38 years old.
The phenomenon of poverty, unemployment and emptiness suffered by the people of the city of Ma'an was also discussed, and appropriate solutions were found through the establishment of projects and factories that contribute to the employment of the people of the city of both sexes.
In the interventions of the members of the Municipal Council, there were several demands centered on the inclusion of the people of the city of Ma’an in scholarships in British universities and the work of twinning between the greater municipality of Ma’an and one of the municipalities of the United Kingdom for commercial, cultural, tourism and economic exchange between the two parties. There was also a demand to find a special solar energy project in the municipality Greater Maan, in order to be able to carry out electricity business and reduce the electricity bill that burdened the municipality. A renewal of the municipal fleet, which has been outdated for a long period of time, has burdened the municipality’s fund through the maintenance of these costly mechanisms. Work has been requested to empower women economically, politically and socially to play their role in community service.
